Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racings Todd Waters has done everything he can to minimise the points loss after finishing 10th overall at a roller-coaster round of the Australian ProMX Championship at Maitland. In the MX2 class, teammate Blake Fox stacked points in both motos to finish 17th overall, while Jack Mather claimed a race win on his way to fourth overall in MX3.

Waters entered Maitland’s fourth round placed third in the premier class standings and looked on target to solidify his position in Saturday’s first race before a track banner got tangled in his rear wheel and forced him to pit. The 2019 national champion returned to the fray and circulated, but finished outside of the points.

Team owner/rider Waters entered Sunday’s two races desperate to make up points after Saturday’s disappointment. Aboard his 2023 Husqvarna FC 450, the ever-motivated Queenslander powered his way into a top-five position, before a late mistake saw him finish in seventh place.

A top-four start to the second MX1 moto again saw Waters positioned for a strong result, but he got caught in the same line as a lapped rider and dropped a position, then settled for sixth to finish the weekend in 10th overall. He’s now placed seventh in the MX1 points’ chase.

In the MX2 class, Fox is taking the positives of scoring points in both races as he continues to ride his way back into form. After posting a season-best 12th qualifying time aboard his 2023 Husqvarna FC 250, Fox found himself mid-pack off the start of the opening race and moved his way into 11th, but experienced arm-pump late in the moto and finished 16th.

Fox hit the gate off the start of the second race and found himself outside the top 20 early on, but picked his way around a greasy circuit to finish 18th. He now sits 22nd in the points and will be aiming to climb the order in the series’ second half.

In the MX3 class, Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing’s Jack Mather finished the three-race weekend in fourth overall. Saturday’s race saw the talented teenager scramble from last to an impressive 10th, but he rebounded to claim the opening race win on Sunday, then dug deep through a storm-drenched final race to take a thrilling P3 result. Mather is now second in the MX3 standings, just five points off the lead.

The fifth round of the Australian ProMX Championship will be held at Gillman, South Australia, on Sunday, May 28.

Todd Waters: “The weekend was a bit of a rough one for us, and finishing outside of the points on Saturday’s race was a disappointing result, but not something we could have helped. Today was just about trying to minimise that damage by banking some solid points. I feel we’re making some good progress and now I’ll aim to put some good races together and get some more podium results – hopefully moto wins – in these coming races.”

Blake Fox: “The weekend started well with a good qualifying time, and we found a few improvements with the bike that helped me, but I struggled with some things, personally. It was a rough track and I got a bit of arm-pump, and I hit the gate at the start of the second moto, which cost me a good start. Looking at the whole weekend, it wasn’t the best, but I did manage to get points in both races, which is a first for my season and I’ll take that as a positive. I just need to fix a few things before the next round, so we can keep improving.”
