Husqvarna Racing Team's Todd Waters has moved up the MX1 points rankings to sit second overall after a hard-fought podium result at the fifth round of the 2022 ProMX Championship in Maitland, NSW.

Husqvarna Racing Team's Todd Waters has moved up the MX1 points rankings to sit second overall after a hard-fought podium result at the fifth round of the 2022 ProMX Championship in Maitland, NSW.

The 2019 national champion and his Husqvarna FC 450 started the day by posting the sixth-fastest time in qualifying around the challenging circuit with a range of grip surfaces.

In the opening moto, Waters rounded the first turn in P7, but gradually chipped away at the riders ahead of him and capitalised on the mistakes of others to finish in fourth position.

Waters was fifth off the start of the second race and quickly worked his way into fourth, where he stayed until the end, despite putting on a late charge for third place. His 4-4 consistency saw him take home third place for the round.

In the MX2 class, Husqvarna Racing Team’s Dylan Wills experienced all types of bad luck as he finished a disappointing 18th overall, despite running towards the front of the pack for most of the day.

After qualifying fifth on his Husqvarna FC 250, Wills grabbed the holeshot of the opening moto and held championship leader Wilson Todd at bay for half the moto before dropping his bike in a mud-packed rut.

Wills worked his way back to third position, but unfortunately fell again, this time getting caught beneath his bike in the process. He remounted to finish the moto in 11th place.

In the second MX2 encounter, Wills again started strong and was circulating in third before an issue with 10 minutes remaining forced him to DNF, ending any hopes he had of the podium performance he was capable of. He's now eighth in the point-standings.

The sixth round of the 2022 ProMX Championship will be held at Coffs Harbour on Sunday, 24 July.

Todd Waters: “Even though it was another podium, I’m a little disappointed with the overall result as I had the fastest lap-time in both races, but little crashes cost me what could’ve been a better result. To be honest, I’m struggling with the balance of racing both the Australian Off-Road Championship and ProMX, so now when I race motocross I kind of feel like I’m trail-riding... I still feel good and I’m still in race-winning form, but I didn’t execute the result. I’m yet to win a race this year and I’m starting to run out of patience to make that happen! It’s time to start doing it.”

Dylan Wills: “It was definitely a tough round, but at the end of the day you need to roll with the punches. It’s tough to cop on the chin, but I showed a lot of promise today and it was positive to lead for a share of that opening moto. The silly mistakes I made in moto one were on me, but moto two I felt really good, but ran into a technical issue that we haven’t quite diagnosed yet. We’ll find out what went wrong, keep working, then come back at Coffs to try and get it done.”
