Husqvarna Racing Team’s Todd Waters claimed victory at the 2021 King of Capricorn in Rockhampton, marking the second-consecutive year that he has won the Queensland event.

Waters stopped the clock second fastest in Superpole at 1m33.817s, seeing him finish just shy from the fastest time before going on to win five races and the King of Capricorn crown.

A mix of shorter and longer motos kept competitors on their toes, as Waters was able to emerge victorious in the opening 10 lap bout, before repeating his victory in the second race, which was a five-lap outing.

A second and first in races three and four saw the FC 450 rider continue to lead the points, as the King of Capricorn moved into the unique elimination format.

Waters comfortably survived the knock-out process, taking two more victories in races five and six followed by a pair of seconds in races seven and eight, making it to race nine where the top nine riders remained.

The Queenslander finished the final race in second position, which capped off a strong event for both himself and the Husqvarna Racing Team – scoring 20 points more than the nearest competitor en-route to being crowned the 2021 King of Capricorn.

Waters was also victorious in the Senior Two-Stroke category, taking four wins and a perfect 100 points to dominate the class riding a TC 250, while Tahlia Drew was on the podium in the Senior Women class.

In the Prince of Capricorn class, Husqvarna Junior Racing Team rider Jack Mather finished second overall, finishing no lower than fourth across the seven races in the class and winning the final moto.

Heath Fisher claimed second in the Mini Lites (12-U16 Yrs) class, consistently finishing on the podium across the four motos with a third-place result and three seconds.

Todd Waters: “Getting back up to Rockhampton, the King of Capricorn last year was the first year and we managed to take it out. To come back up and back it up was I stoked to get the win and to see the progress of the event, Mike Ward and the Rockhampton club have put a massive effort in prior to the event. The best thing was the atmosphere and the trophy was insane - it reminded me a bit of America as we got a trophy with a bull's horn on it. But overall, the track was tip-top and the racing was really good, we had Aaron Tanti, Kirk Gibbs, Jesse Dobson, Levi Rogers and a bunch of local kids, so it was really good.”
