Husqvarna Racing Team’s Dylan Wills has captured an impressive second overall at the third round of the 2022 Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) at Newcastle, marking his first-career podium in the SX1 category.

Early in the day, Wills made a mistake exiting a rhythm section and hit his chin on the handlebars, resulting in him receiving stitches before the night show began.

Determined to put on a strong performance for what was his 'home' event on the calendar, Wills toughed through the pain in his SX1 heat race, riding the 2023 Husqvarna FC 450 to a creditable third position.

That result set the tone for what would be a break-out ride for Wills in the three-final Triple Crown format, as he stayed strong through each of the main events to finish with a remarkable 3-3-4 scorecard.

Using the Olympic scoring method, Wills’ ultra-consistent results saw him finish the evening in second overall. It was his first round podium of the season and his first-ever podium in the premier class after stepping up to the SX1 field in 2022.

The strong result of Wills has also seen him rise to third overall in the championship standings with one round remaining in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, next Saturday, 3 December.

Also at round three in Newcastle, Husqvarna Motorcycles-supported Jack Mather took victory in the SX3 category, recording 2-1 finishes and is also tied for the points-lead with one round remaining.

Dylan Wills: “I'm really happy with this result and to enjoy it with the Husqvarna Racing Team! Today started rough when I went a little long in the rhythm section and smacked my head on the 'bars on the up-ramp of the triple, so receiving five stitches in my chin wasn’t an ideal way to start the day... I have a saw jaw and my face is a little puffy, but I decided to go out and ride smart in the night show. After a third in my heat, I went 3-3-4 in the finals to finish second overall on the night. I’m so stoked! The team and I have been working all year for this and after a tough outdoors in the MX2 class, I’ve turned it around for my home race here in supercross.”
