South Africa’s top racing talent will line up for a bar-to-bar battle on Saturday. The second round of the National Enduro Championship takes place at Piesangkloof 4x4 Trails, situated in the foothills on the Magaliesberg.

At a venue that is designed to test man and his machine, riders will be bracing themselves for a technical challenge. Piesangkloof’s rocky trails extend into surrounding farm lands, and promise breathtaking views of Hartbeespoort Dam.

Taking his place at the start line as a favourite this weekend is William Oosthuizen. The rider has taken the E1 Class by storm since his Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing debut in 2018.

After narrowly missing the national title last year, Oosthuizen has entered the 2019 season with all guns blazing. Having never won a national championship before, the 21-year old explained: “Winning a national championship is probably every rider’s dream. It was a massive confidence booster coming so close last year, which made me realise that this could actually become a reality for me.”

Oosthuizen stormed to victory at the first round of the series and currently holds the top spot on the leader board. The rider is also fresh off a solid performance at the recent Inner City Enduro in Port Elizabeth, where he mentioned ‘gaining some valuable experience.’

With competitors like Lloyd Kirk, Bradley Cox and his very own teammate Matthew Green in the E1 mix, Oosthuizen’s journey to his first national title will by no means be an easy one.

As he looks to the season ahead, Oosthuizen made his commitment to winning the championship clear: “I haven’t planned any international races this year. I’m fully committed to the National Enduro Championship and will do everything I can to get my hands on that title.”

Teammate Green will make his return to racing this weekend. After pulling out of the last event due to illness, the rider will be looking to make up every championship point that he can get. Rounding out the Pepson Plastics Husqvarna Racing team is Brett Swanepoel, who will continue making his highly-anticipated comeback after a year-long injury.
