Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing has started the 2023 Australian ProMX Championship strongly, with team owner Todd Waters finishing sixth overall at Appin's second round of the season.

Former national MX1 champion Waters finished the day with a sixth overall in the premier class, despite a lack of bike time limiting his pre-season due to an injury sustained late last year.

After setting the ninth-fastest time in the Top 10 Shootout, Waters and his 2023 Husqvarna FC 450 charged into P4 early in the opening moto and, after dicing with the front-runners around the technical, rutted circuit, finished fifth.

In the final back-to-back motos, Waters tackled the searing heat and increasingly dusty conditions to finish with 10-5 results. Using the Olympic scoring system, he claimed P8 when the positions from those two shortened races were combined.

In the MX2 class, Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing signing Blake Fox was 22nd overall after being unable to finish the afternoon's second and final outing.

Former MX3 champion Fox was 19th in qualifying, before he and his Husqvarna FC 250 started both races strongly inside the top five. He finished 18th in the opening moto of the round, but was forced to retire from the second moto.

In the MX3 class, Raceline Husqvarna Berry Sweet Racing-backed riders filled two of the top four round positions, with Liam Owens finishing second and Jack Mather fourth overall.

Owens put in two solid races with a 5-2 result, while Mather – who has gritted his teeth through a painful knee injury – finished the weekend with 3-6 scores.

The next round of the 2023 Australian ProMX Championship will be held at Wodonga, VIC, on April 16.

Todd Waters: “Today was just about getting a race under the belt, as we had no pre-season racing and haven’t had much time to set the bikes up. I was off the pace and didn’t have anything for the front guys, as I’m still trying to get my confidence back after dislocating my shoulder last year and coming back from the nerve damage I experienced in my fingers. I only got back on the bike about six weeks ago, but I’m happy with my fitness, and with how the team went. It’s a good starting point and we’ll only get stronger from here.”

Blake Fox: “It was a tough day at the office for me. The track was really muddy for our qualifying session, but I still managed to get two really good starts to my two races. It was disappointing to DNF the second moto and a P22 result isn’t what I want, but I know what I need to work on before Wodonga in four weeks time.”
