Husqvarna Motorcycles riders have claimed a haul of podium finishes in the opening rounds of the 2022 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) at Cherrabah, QLD.

Husqvarna Motorcycles riders have claimed a haul of podium finishes in the opening rounds of the 2022 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) at Cherrabah, QLD.

The weekend saw Todd Waters ride his FE 450 to third position on both days in the hotly-contested E2 category, describing the weekend as 'the gnarliest thing I’ve ever done on a motorcycle'.

Waters negotiated huge mud-filled holes, ruts, rocks and dusty ridges to claim a consistent third in class on Saturday and second on Sunday, the 31-year-old putting in a stronger performance to cap-off the weekend.

Both rounds of the AORC featured back-to-back Sprint races around two technical, muddy loops that proved to be a real test for the best off-road racers in the country. For Waters, it was a case of setting the platform for things to come as his off-road experience builds.

In addition, Simford Racing entry Andy Wilksch starred in the E3 class on return to national competition by claiming his class victory at rounds one and two aboard a Husqvarna FE 501, as did talented youngster Billy Hargy in the EJ field.

Rounds three and four of the AORC will be held in Mackay, QLD, on 8-9 April, where the riders will face Enduro formats over the two days of competition.

Todd Waters: "I’ve never ridden a motorbike in anything like the conditions we faced over the weekend - it was the gnarliest thing I’ve ever done on a motorcycle. Saturday was a bit of a nightmare with a number of crashes that cost me lots of time, but I felt I got my head around it and adapted a lot better to the conditions on Sunday, so it was good to improve and take second place at round two. While I’ve got some homework to do if I want to be an Australian Off-Road Champion, there are a lot of positives to take from the weekend and I’ve got plenty of motivation to continue improving before Mackay in a month’s time."
