Husqvarna-supported riders have continued to lay claim to the podium as the 2022 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) continued in Mackay, QLD.

Husqvarna-supported riders have continued to lay claim to the podium as the 2022 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) continued in Mackay, QLD.

Queenslander Todd Waters and his FE 450 continued to thrive as he gains more and more experience in his first full season of off-road competition, finishing a consistent second on Friday, then third on Sunday in the ever-competitive E2 division.

On Saturday, Waters charged hard around the two varied sprint loops to finish the day as runner-up in class, further establishing himself at the front of the national off-road pack.

Constant rain overnight and throughout Saturday raised the stakes significantly, but Waters continued to put the pressure on the front-runners.

Two crashes in today’s opening test saw him drop 40 seconds on the leader and even though he stormed to take a series of test victories – including winning one outright – the 31-year-old finished third, a mere six seconds shy from taking claiming second place.

Meanwhile, Simford Racing’s Andy Wilksch continued to impress with a standout E3 class and outright victory on Friday by more than a minute. He followed that up with a come-from-behind runner-up result in the E3 class on Saturday, while Billy Hargy made the EJ podium on day two.

Rounds five and six of the Australian Off-Road Championship will be contested at Kyogle in NSW between 16-17 July.

Todd Waters: “It was an intense two days of racing and while I’m disappointed to miss just out on second in the E2 class today, I’m happy to still walk away with a couple of podium results. I crashed twice on today’s opening sprint loop – once on rocks and another into a tree – and dropped 40 seconds on Josh Green. Even though I beat him in the rest of the tests, it was just too much time to make up! The most disappointing aspect is that I felt I rode much better today, but got a slightly worse result. Still, I’m healthy and ready to line up for the ProMX Championship tomorrow in Mackay and finish off a big weekend of racing on a high note.”
