Release from 25.11.2023
In the SX1 class, Wills put in another solid performance at Friday night’s final round of the Australian Supercross Championship, finishing the Main Event in fifth position.
After qualifying sixth, Wills put in a great ride in his Heat on his 2023 Husqvarna FC 450 to finish a comfortable runner-up, then surged towards the front of the field early in the Final. After holding down a top-three position, Wills made a small error in a rhythm section and lost two positions, but consolidated to finish P5.
After gaining a wildcard entry for Saturday’s World Supercross Championship finale, Wills lined up again for a second-straight night in the WSX class.
The Sydney-based rider caught everyone’s attention early in his Heat Race when he made an aggressive pass for the lead in the second turn, before the favour was returned a couple of corners later and Wills unfortunately ended up on the ground. He remounted to finish 10th, then raced to 18-19-16 scores across the trio of finals.
Dylan Wills: “It was a weekend to remember, that’s for sure. I was really happy with my pace on Friday and it was rewarding to finish the SX1 championship in sixth overall, even though I missed the first round with injury. Racing the World Supercross Championship against the best riders in the world was an amazing experience – I learnt a lot and the whole weekend is something I won’t forget anytime soon.”
In the SX2 class, Raceline Performance-supported rider Reid Taylor rode his way to a 10th-place finish in the Final following a consistent day on his 2023 Husqvarna FC 250.
A sixth-fastest qualifying time was followed by a hard-fought P4 result in his heat, before he surged to a top-five start in his final. Midway through the final, Taylor was caught up in a mistake from a lapped rider in the whoops and went down, but remounted to finish 10th, and wrapped the series up in eighth overall.
Reid Taylor: “I got off to a decent start in the Main and was fourth through the first corner. I was shuffled back to fifth and was riding comfortably there until midway through the race, when I went down with a lapped rider in the whoops and lost a bunch of positions. To still finish 10th, and eighth in the championship isn’t too bad, considering I was on the ground more than I would have liked during the series.”
Meanwhile, in the SX3 class, Travis Olander (Husqvarna FC 250) and Jyle Campbell (Husqvarna TC 250) finished an eventful final in third and ninth positions, respectively.
Olander scored a good jump off the gate and was able to improve one position on his way to a well-earned podium performance.
Campbell found himself embroiled in mid-pack battles for most of the race as he fought his way from 13th early on to finish inside the top 10. He finished the season in fourth overall.
