The gates are about to drop for the second round of the National Motocross Championship. Riders are in for a challenge as they make their way to Cape Town’s Zone 7 - a track renowned for its deep ruts, big jumps and alternating terrain of sand and hard pack.

Maddy Malan will take his place at the start line as the leader of the MX1 pack. The 22-year old managed to get a 4-point lead on his competitors after a stellar season opener in Port Elizabeth last month.

Fully aware of the strong lineup of riders that will be chasing down his red plate, Malan commented, “The best way to start the season is with the points lead and red background. I can’t wait for Cape Town - my plan is to keep the momentum rolling forward and not get complacent about anything. It’s a long championship and a lot can happen, so I’m not resting on my win. I know the guys are going be coming into Cape Town harder than ever.”

Looking to get some points on the board and conquer some more MX2 territory is the team’s newest recruit Nick Adams.

With his years of experience racing both locally and internationally, fans were given but a glimpse of Adams’ potential at the first round in Port Elizabeth. He’s had to work hard to overcome an injury that he sustained in November last year, and mentions making some significant progress over the last few weeks.

“I’m definitely fit enough going into this national after finally getting a solid couple of weeks to train. I’ve had the chance to ride Zone 7, and feel confident enough to chase a win,” said Adams.

Rounding out the team is young gun Neil van der Vyver. A hometown National comes at the perfect time for van der Vyver who will line up with the red plate for the first time in the 65cc Class.

The Western Cape rider will look to tap into new gears in front of his home crowd, and has even spent the last few days training with Malan.

“The Cape Town national has always been one of my favourites. Going into this race with the red plate and leading the championship in front of my home crowd is just awesome!  Myself and Maddy have been training together for the past few days and I really learnt a lot from him on and off the track. We are ready and can’t wait for those gates to drop on Saturday!” enthused van der Vyver.
