This weekend South Africa’s leading riders will line-up for the highly anticipated return of the National Motocross Championship. The event will take place in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday. The hardpack track is infamous for its unrelenting, technical terrain and will demand high levels of concentration and skill this weekend.

Spearheading the hunt for national titles is Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s David Goosen, who will represent the team in both the MX1 and MX2 Class. The rider’s consistent performance this season has put him in a prime position to fight for both championships.

Goosen currently lies second in the prestigious MX1 Class, just 14 points behind championship rival Tristan Purdon. In the highly competitive MX2 Class, Goosen finds himself in a similar position as he lines up third - a mere 16-points from the top of the leaderboard.

“It feels like the season is starting all over again – we are beyond excited to be back racing. The Pietermaritzburg track has always been good to me. It’s super technical and doesn’t require brute strength, but high levels of skills and patience. Catching up on points is going to require some wins at this stage of the season. If you’re impatient, though, you can make big mistakes on this track so it’s going to be a fine balance between pushing to win and staying consistent,” said Goosen.

“A key component of this race will also be bike setup and suspension. I feel super comfortable with my WP Suspension, and my Husqvarna FC 450 and FC 250 are both riding like a dream,” he added.

Joining him in the fight for championship points is Rockstar Energy Husqvarna teammate Neil van der Vyver. The youngster has overcome his fair share of blows this season and like Goosen, faces a 14-point gap to chip away at this weekend.

To prepare for the task at hand, Van der Vyver mentions spending a lot of time training at a hardpack track in Cape Town recently. Not only has he dialled in his technical skills over the past few weeks, but also his Husqvarna TC 85 machine.

“We’ve done a lot of testing on hardpack lately and the bike is running awesome. My goal is simply to win and close that gap that the championship leaders have on me. I am so excited to get behind those gates again!” said Van der Vyver.

As his team prepares for battle, Husqvarna South Africa’s Brand Manager Fred Fensham commented: “…”
