Husqvarna Junior Racing Team’s Heath Fisher capitalised on his experience of riding in hot, humid conditions to take his Husky to the top of the 85cc (12-U14yrs) class at the 2022 Australian Junior Motocross Championship in Rockhampton.

Right from the outset, the talented Townsville-based rider proved to be the one to beat after clean-sweeping his three heat races, with teammate Jack Deveson hot on his heels in second position.

As the track slowly dried out after heavy rain midway through the five-day event, Fisher continued to shine as he stormed to a 1-1-2 scorecard to wrap up his class.

Also equipped with the Husqvarna TC 85, Deveson helped lock out the first two positions of the 85cc podium and was the only rider to beat Fisher all week. He came through the pack in two of his three finals to finish with a satisfying 2-2-1 scorecard.

Meanwhile, Cairns-based rider Braden Plath put an injury-riddled 2022 behind him to finish with a hard-earned fifth overall in the highly-competitive 125cc (15yrs) division and claimed ninth overall on his FC 250 in class.

Fellow Queensland-based Husqvarna rider Liam Owens put in an impressive showing in the 250cc (13-U15yrs) and 125cc (13-U15yrs) class to claim two podiums. He took a final race win on the 250 to finish P2 overall and won the first of the 125 motos on his way to third overall.

Another national championship was won by Husky-mounted Ethan Wolfe in the 65cc (7-U10yrs) division, scoring P1 in two of his three finals to bring home the title aboard his TC 65.

Heath Fisher: "It’s been a really great week and I felt strong and consistent on the bike the whole time, regardless of the conditions that were thrown at us. I really like this track and I’ve ridden it a few times, but it formed up a lot differently this week due to the fact there weren’t as many big bikes on the track. It was very satisfying to finish the day with the overall and I felt like everything clicked all week."

Jack Deveson: "This is my first-ever Australian titles podium, so I’m pretty pumped on that and to see a reward for all the hard work we’ve put in this year. I had a couple of horrible starts in the first two finals, but I was still able to work my way through the pack well. I finally got a good start in the last moto and was able to make one pass on my teammate to take the win. All in all, it’s been a great weekend and I couldn’t be happier with the result."

Braden Plath: "It was a tough week for me, with some up and down results. I scored heaps of holeshots, so that was a positive. I’ve had a rough year with injuries – I broke my arm earlier this year, then tore ligaments off the top of my foot not long after returning – and I only got back on the bike fairly recently. When I think about that, it was awesome to do as well as I did and I'm excited to keep working into the future."
